First Visit
When & What Is My Child’s First “Regular” Visit?
As supported by The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and The American Dental Association (ADA) children should have their first dental visit by their first birthday or within 6 months of their first tooth erupting. Beginning care at this time allows for establishment of a dental home and is key to a lifetime of good oral health!
During the first visit we will take time to familiarize your child with our office and staff. We will review your child’s medical and dental history and complete a general dental exam in a gentle manner, addressing any concerns about your child that you may have. If appropriate recommendations may be made for care including a dental cleaning, fluoride treatment or x-rays, based on an individualized treatment plan.
If necessary, we will discuss any treatment recommendations based on our findings. Most importantly we will develop a personalized program for home care including brushing and flossing instruction, diet counseling and additional preventative measures to serve as a foundation for a lifetime of good oral health!
Stay positive! Talk to your child about what to expect at their first dental visit including counting, brushing and flossing teeth. Talk about the visit in a positive manner as you would about any important new experience. A visit to the dentist can be a pleasant and exciting adventure!
